At our AGM on Saturday, we were very pleased to accept a cheque for £480 from Roger Barnard, brother of the late Brian ‘Lloydy’ Barnard who was so well known in Hartley Wintney cricket and football circles.

On the news of Lloydy’s death at the end of June 2022, collections were made by Roger Robertson - who grew up with Lloydy - at the Cricket Club during the Cricket Day and the Hartley Reunion at the Football Club plus online donations from the wider community.

It was hoped to raise enough to purchase two benches in his honour, located outside the football and cricket clubs respectively, but the sums donated far exceeded this, the benches have been purchased, and we are delighted that the Care Group have been chosen by the family as the local charity to receive the remaining money. This will go towards maintaining the wide range of services that we provide to the community, often at little or no cost to users.

It just shows the generosity of Hartley Wintney residents that the donations came to such a large amount and the esteem in which Lloydy was held. We think that he would be pleased!
