Volunteering
Duty Officers Required
Do you have an hour or two spread over a week to suit you, to help us organise transport to essential medical appointments for those who have no transport of their own and cannot afford, for example, a taxi fare of £50 to get to and from North Hampshire Hospital in Basingstoke?
What is involved?
Our Duty Officers take calls from our 0845 telephone number which are directed to their home telephone. They then find one of our volunteer drivers to take people to their appointment, wait for them and then bring them home again. In normal circumstances the average week sees our Duty Officers organising 10 - 12 trips.
An answering machine is essential because we do not expect our Duty Officers to be tied to the telephone all day; they may have to take children to and from school, do shopping, attend a regular leisure activity or just pop next door for a cup of tea and a chat.
No special skills are required. Full training is provided and new recruits can shadow one of the existing team, to ease them into the role.
